The safety application currently developed by BMW Research and Technology within the INTERSAFE-2 project specifically addresses the scenario of left turning at intersections, improving safety. Objects to be detected are passenger cars, trucks and, because these are very prone to be overlooked, motorcycles.

For the safety application sensors as shown in the picture are used to realise following tasks:

·         Intersection reconstruction, done by fusion of data from a digital map, laserscanners and a camera,

·         Detection of  oncoming traffic, based on a laserscanner and V2V-communication.
