Workpackage WP3 is the first RTD activity within INTERSAFE-2. In this workpackage “User Needs and Requirements” important fundamentals are prepared for the research activities in following workpackages.

WP3 starts with accident analysis on European data bases. The result of this task is to identify the most relevant scenarios in which collisions occur.

In parallel to this a survey on user needs has been conducted. More than 100 subjects in six European countries have been interviewed. The result is that approximately the half of all car drivers have already been in a critical situation at intersections and can very well imagine to be assisted by an Intersection Assistant.

 The third task deals with deriving the scenarios addressed in INTERSAFE-2 from those ones coming out from the accident analysis. Three demonstrator vehicles (two passenger cars and one truck) will be equipped with special safety functions. These safety functions will assist the driver by warning and/ or dedicated intervention into driving dynamic to enhance the safety at intersections.
