WP 5 - Key Technologies
WP5 is dedicated for developing the key sensing and communication technologies for enabling build of co-operative intersection environment. The sensing technologies mainly rely on camera vision and laser scanners which are complemented with the standard vehicle sensors such as radars and inertia units.
The work package execution time is from Mar 2009 to Mar 2010 and it is divided to four sub-tasks:
Task 5.1 V2X Communication
- Enabling secure information exchange mutually between vehicles and vehicles and infrastructure side monitoring and controlling equipment
- Enhancing an available software implementation of V2X communication by functions specific at intersection environment
- Harmonizing the communication facility according to the recommendations of C2C-CC, COMeSafety and the existing V2X related projects: CVIS, GeoNet, AKTIV, SIM-TD, CVIS, SAFESPOT, Coopers, PReVENT-WILLWARN and Network on Wheels-NoW
Task 5.2 Perception
- Development of advanced on-board perception algorithms for detecting and tracking vehicles, pedestrians and other objects entering to an intersection
- Recognising natural landmarks like curbs, poles and lanes in order to the reconstruct the infrastructure
- The result of this task is a set of algorithms which are able to completely model the intersection
Task 5.3 Intersection monitoring
- Development of cooperative infrastructure side intersection monitoring for complementing data of on-board sensors
- Road state monitoring for preventing panic reaction when a vehicle is entering to a slippery intersection
- Implementation of laser scanners to infrastructure for detecting vulnerable road users like bicycles, pedestrians in the intersection area
- Implementing and further developing a proactive traffic controller system
Task 5.4 Relative localization
- The task will develop accurate host vehicle localization algorithms which base on on-board sensors, such as cameras and laserscanners for complementing the global positioning systems (GPS/Galileo)
- Using and complementing detailed or standard maps with location information of the host vehicle
